Days Are Numbered POSTED AT 01:18 AM I was over at Henry's yesterday with Raphie, and I played Nick.com's Avatar: Autumn Twilight all the way until the almost end. Just one more stage. Well, I would've been able to finish it if a) the keyboard hadn't gone berserk on me (NO! HENRY! THATWASNOTMYFAULT) and b) the stupid Fire Serpent thing at the end died sooner! I swear, there was this point where I kept firing Water Javelins at it and it just took the hits and I was wondering if I was even damaging it. Anyway, I'm glad about what I was able to accomplish. Now when I finish that, i'll go finish Earth too. The girl walks like a crab. The water bending skills are the ice bolt thing, the circle of water explosion, the water whip, the surge of water (wave thing), the water javelin and hail. Nothing I have fought has yet to survive Hail. And playing a Waterbender was damn cool. Further back... Sunday. Sunday was most interesting. I blatantly striked out against going to Church if it was late, and I got to hang around the mall to waste time--something I haven't done outside of the house for a while. Also, earlier that day, I was at the Cemetery and met most of my relatives there. I also handed Sa(n)-yi the CD filled with Hokkien and Mandarin music. Now, instead of Sa(n)-yi getting the CD, it went to Aku Manuel instead. That's just odd. So he brought it to his car and listened to the first song--紅塵 by 王建杰and he was instantly hooked. He told Di-yi to tell me that it was so good, he wanted more music. Then Sa(n)-yi told me to burn her a copy too. So now I have four or five CDs to burn. Yay, won't this be fun. I sincerely loathe Xavier. I don't want to go back there. Not for another year of homework and endless quizzes and requirements. I just don't have it in me. 4 freed the words

Okay Did I Say Minus Jackie? POSTED AT 11:28 AM Jackie got grounded, while Christian had a tournament. Jackie's also going to Enchanted Kingdom, and Christian won second place during the tournament. Congrats, Chris. The day starts off quite early--seven or six thirty. I enter the computer room and am at once reminded of Crazy Girls by Bethany Joy Lenz (who plays Hailey in One Tree Hill). Nice song. So at ten, I tell Andrew to get ready already, because he's gonna bring me to PowerPlant today with the uber-get-together gimmick (minus Jackie and Christian). At ten thirty, he still hasn't gotten ready, and he says he'll bring me there when the NBA game is concluded. So I wait. At ten forty one, we finally leave, (which is typical, because if I tell him the appointed time is ten forty five, we'd leave at ten forty.) Actually, the appointed meeting time was at 11:00. Hehe. So we were met by an oncoming wave of traffic on our way, but we mysteriously were able to get there in ten minutes. It's now ten forty eight, and I get down from the car at ten fifty. I make a beeline for Hub, where I grab me some load, then to Fully Booked, where I peruse the travel section for a book on Shanghainese. Now I found one for Shanghai with a few footnotes on the dialect, but no phrases--all Mandarin. It's even outright stated in the travel book that there is no need to "grapple" with the dialect. Mandarin is apparently uniformly understood. And that's the problem in itself. People should be forced to grapple with the dialect, like in Hong Kong. That's what it's aaaaaalllllll about. So anyway, I also learned something about Shanghainese, and found inaccuracies: Apparently, the old Shanghainese dialect (before it was corrupted by Mandarin) had 8 tones (but then again, all dialects had eight tones in the beginning). From then on, it's been scaled down to the "present" five. Now this is apparently not true, because a very reliable Shanghainese source (whose reliability, upon retrospect, I now sincerely doubt) says that there are only, in fact, two tones. I'm going to stick with the five-tone scheme because I once heard a man say that it's not about getting the tones right, but understanding the "lilt and feel" of the language. Also, this brought to mind Henry describing the Shanghainese Visitor he had: Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:13:43 PM): oh, yesterday, I met a person who could talk shanghainese Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:13:58 PM): she was talking with my parents Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:14:04 PM): discussing various things Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:14:12 PM): then her dad called from china on her cellphone Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:14:35 PM): then she started chattering in shanghainese Me (5/29/2006 5:14:41 PM): how much did you catch? Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:14:46 PM): the whole thing Me (5/29/2006 5:14:53 PM): i mean how much could you understand Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:14:57 PM): a bit Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:15:02 PM): some of it sounded like mandarin Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:15:05 PM): and cantonese Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:15:13 PM): and I heard shauvte Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:16:42 PM): at some points, it seemed like she wasn't saying any vowels Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:16:43 PM): :p Henrison Hsieh (5/29/2006 5:16:56 PM): it was like sfbfthslpfthsl Cool, eh? Anywhey, so Cath texts me, asking if I'm in Rockwell/where there. I direct her to Fully Booked and I break the news to her: Jackie and Christian couldn't make it. I am almost maimed. So, she calls her mom, takes care of it and I show her Rosie Dunne, and we chatter some more. We check out a movie, walk around senselessly and Walter and Char arrive. We all decide to meet in Tokyo Tokyo. Walt and Char are both in black, and after a bit of banter, we decide to eat in Burgoo. I can't believe Char's never been to Burgoo yet. So we order a Chicken Tenders (large) and proceed to share, find the name of our server (Franz), and why do they always ask for my name??? The last three times that I've been to Burgoo, it's always MY name that they ask. (Which brings back memories of us harassing Abby...) Suddenly, everyone's sharing secrets from everyone else, but always WITH me. Then a bug lands on Walter's arm. A tiny cockroach. He shakes it off, then goes to the CR to wash it. We realize it's from the vent. So we push the table backwards and (later on) see another bug crawling around behind Cath's seat. Walter has mashed potatoes, and we call for the bill--a measley 480. After we split it, we leave a tip and leave, promising to eat elsewhere, but we didn't. Char also doesn't eat pizza. So we head up to KTV and start singing, forcing Cath to sing I Lay My Love On You (that pop-y Westlife song) with Char. Kenn and Walter have left to get him some lunch, and when they come back, Kenn generously gave me his chips (he couldn't eat them because he would get pimples). So we have a song-fest, and Cath leaves a bit later after she's taken some pictures and videos, and shared innuendo-loaded things, and the video of the Kenn-Christian scandal with Walter (with Kenn's permission). Elsewhere, Heroes 5 is out! I held a copy of Guild Wars Factions too... So we went KTV-ed til we were tired, moved on to Fully Booked where I suddenly started feeling immensely thirsty after I got lost there and lost Char, Walt, Kenn, Nicky, Mark and Kerby. So I found them, then I went down to Starbucks for a bit of Tazo Tea. Walter comes along later and asks if I'm okay. I'm shockingly informed that, apparently, they thought I was mad. So we shared stories in Starbucks and eventually went back upstairs to PowerStation. Then we got a picture card and left. Walter got me a shirt from Canada. He's psychic, I tell you. So they leave, and Kenn and I go back upstairs where we have another bout of KTV. He and Kerby sing 一路上有你 by 張學友. Personally, I found that version rather... simple. It was not nearly as profound as the Cantonese version 分手總要在雨天, probably simply because it's in Mandarin--and Mandarin is spoken as it's written, and Cantonese isn't. It probably sounds casual like that. So I tried the Cantonese version, and sang it TERRIBLY and got a ... 98??? Right then, at 5:10, I had to leave, and the last thing I heard was Kenn shouting "What a way to exit!" I got to the office. I still have bad memories of Dad there, so I was internally angry at him the whole time I was there. It certainly didn't go as I'd planned, but on hindsight, it was actually a good day because I got to spend it with some of my friends (minus Jackie and Christian), and that's really all I can ask for. |

The Problem With Irene Barcelon POSTED AT 11:42 AM Neither of them failed to recognize that a student had been excluded from the list, which caused countless people to pester him about it. I think you know who you are. It also caused him a great deal of stress, Ms. Rachel De Vera an even greater deal of stress, and thoughts of lawsuits brewing in his mind. I heard Jeffrey got transferred to B. I have been listening to Fukien music all this time, and it's very nice. I even burned them all into a CD for my aunt to listen to (since she was so interested to listen to Fukien songs). Tomorrow... is the gimmick with everyone. Minus Jackie. Well, that's all. Everything is just crazy. |

Just A Little Poem POSTED AT 01:00 AM I'll probably be the only one who can appreciate its message, because it only really applies to me, but I will also demonstrate the rhymes. This can only possibly rhyme properly throughout in Fukien. 入壇以想 蕤滿得亮 葩中嗅香 踞俟味溶 等鶯了唱 遐朝消融 聆這人腔 我銳無量 I have yet to name it. And I don't think I will either. |

Guess Who's In H3-B? POSTED AT 08:28 AM And guess what? I'm staying B. B. Yep. Now I'm none too happy with who my classmates are, but hey, I'm sure there was some reason I was put in this class. Although I do love my old class more. Now here we go, the consituents of 3B: Hamilton Balonan Pohan Chen Jeffrey Chua Jose Timothy Chua Phillip Co Edrian Dy Kyle Dy Tan Justin Figueroa Blair Go Bryan Lao Perry Lao Charlie Ledesma Stamford Lee Ryle Li Gerard Licup Rossini Lu Rapahel Malilay Dominic Navarro Mark Ong Waldon Pardilla Timothy Quidilla Jacques Reyes Juan Roqueza Mark Roxas TJ Santos Charles Sy Stanly Sy Justin Tan Filbert Tiu Kenn Tong Bryan Uy Harwyn Uy Payton Yao Alfonso Yaptinchay and now... Moi. Now I have no idea who some of the people are (they have been bolded in the above list). Or maybe I know them by their faces, or I know them but I just don't remember them right now--I dunno. Important thing is! I've got a section. Now, onto phase 2: Kick Ms. Irene Barcelon's behind. What in God's name was she thinking, excluding my name from a whole batch's class lists? Yeah. She can expect a grinding. Anyway... off to wrap my books, now that I have my section. Here we go, people! The new school year in 6 days (yes, it's been moved to the 7th). |

It's Good To See That You're Doing Fine POSTED AT 03:38 AM Jackie's holding up well since China. Bro. Haw is going back to Ateneo to finish his studies in Priesthood. Okay, well almost everyone. Eccentric. When the days are quiet, you know that something's about to happen. The sections have come out, and there's this terrified disbelief in my gut about what might happen in school. Do I even wanna go back? Why is my first answer to that a resounding "no"? I'm sick of the way Xavier runs things. If I had a choice, I wouldn't go there. I'd rather be elsewhere, kung saan mas matino yung sistema. Nakakapagod minsan, e, alam mo? Araw-araw, pare-pareho... wala... sawa na. Sana maging maayos ang XS this year. At salamat, tinanggal na rin si Father Go. Sometimes, it gets tiring to think about Xavier, and the arm long list of to-do's that I have yet to accomplish. Xavier brings problems. I don't like problems. Another time. The Show Is Free by Doc Walker I'm gonna live forever just wait and see And I'll turn into leather from the sun on me So stick around my fair-weather friends The show is free Well, I'll be on some highway until I fall And I'm gonna do things my way or not at all You can see it or you can dream it That's your call Well I won't let this old small town be the life of me When there's so much more out there I haven't seen Now I'm on my way, radio playing, beautiful day Where I lay my head is where I'm meant to be Yesterday is out of sight I don't know where I'll sleep tonight It's a great big world out there and it's all for me And the show is free Well I'm not trying to sell you on anything I'm just trying to tell you what I see So take a look around my friend The show is free Now I'm on my way, radio playing, beautiful day Where I lay my head is where I'm meant to be Yesterday is out of sight I don't know where I'll sleep tonight It's a great big world out there and it's all for me And the show is free Now I'm on my way, radio playing, beautiful day Where I lay my head is where I'm meant to be Yesterday is out of sight I don't know where I'll sleep tonight It's a great big world out there and it's all for me And the show is free The show is free Yeah the show is free ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today, I saw pictures. You had pictures. I've gotten so accustomed to knowing everything you do, everything you've done, that seeing you in some foreign place shocked me to no end. But hey, letting go is hard. |
